By | Hair Styles, Makeup, Manicures and Pedicures, Nail Salon | No Comments

Pumpkin spice everything has returned and you know what that means? Fall is in full effect! With the change in the season comes a change in the world of fashion and beauty. There are a lot of trends making their way from the catwalk to the mainstream, but we’ve sifted through all of the looks that came down the runway and picked the trends that we feel our Boca Raton, FL salon clients would appreciate the most. We know our clients are fashion-forward and vibrant, and the trends we are highlighting are perfect for you!

Short Cuts– If you’ve ever dreamed of chopping off your long locks for something short and sweet—now is the time. The Fashion Week runways were filled with haircuts that range from blunt chin-length styles to romantic pixie cuts. Not sure what would work for you? Schedule a consultation with one of our experts and he/she will be able to help you pick a style that works with your face shape and hair texture.

Vivid hair– For the last few years, the unicorn hair (or mermaid hair) trend has been going strong. It seems like everywhere you look there is someone with vivid colored hair brightening the day. This trend is one of our favorites at our Boca Raton, FL salon because it allows our stylists to have tons of creative freedom. Thinking about popping some color? There are many ways to do this. You can opt for a whole head of pink (or any color for that matter) or subtle pops of color (think rose gold or mauve) in specific sections of your hair.

Oct 4 Third Pic

Tousled waves– We love beachy waves at Salon Sora, so we’re excited to see this trend  continue into the fall. This look can be achieved at home by using styling products and a curling wand. If you don’t feel like fussing with your hair, you can schedule a blowout and one of our stylists will help you get the look while you relax and browse through a magazine.

Oct 4 Fourth Pic

Vampy lipstick– As soon as PSL season rolls in, so do the vampy lip colors. Deep reds, browns, and greige (the result of combining gray and beige together) will continue to trend this fall. To change things up this fall experiment with different lipstick textures. We know that matte lipstick has been a staple, but don’t forget about the other options that are available such as metallic lipsticks and lip stains.

Oct 4 Fifth Pic

Natural Makeup- Lips may be making a statement this season, but as for the rest of your makeup look it’s all about keeping it simple. The world of fashion is striding towards inclusivity and embracing natural beauty. This season keep your makeup look clean and minimal with light-coverage foundation and taupe lids. To add a subtle pop of color, opt for a peachy blush or eyeshadow.

Oct 4 Sixth Pic

Avant-garde nails– When it comes to nail trends, this season’s hottest look isn’t for the mani minimalist. In fact, it’s everything but minimal. The nails that graced the runways were bold and individual works of art. Think prints, texture, sparkles, and mini works of art on all 10 fingers. Now we know that real life isn’t a runway, so there are ways to make these looks more wearable for the everyday woman. Stay on trend this season by trying on some custom nail art at Salon Sora.

3 Tips for Picking your Wedding Day Glam Squad

By | Hair Styles, Makeup | No Comments

Wedding Hairstylist in Boca Raton, FL

Wedding bells are ringing! Are you getting married this season? We know how exciting it is to plan a wedding. However, there are so many vendors to work with that the planning process can become a little overwhelming. We’d like to help make the beauty aspect of your wedding planning a little easier for you. Picking your wedding day glam squad is a big decision and we’ve rounded out some of our best tips to help you pick the team that is best for you.

3 Tips for Picking your Wedding Day Glam Squad

Experience is Imperative

Anyone on the internet can call themselves a makeup artist or a hairstylist (or both!), which is why experience is more important than ever. While some individuals have mastered the art of flawlessly applying their own makeup or styling their own hair, it doesn’t always mean they can do the same on others. Your wedding day is not a day to give a friend a chance to practice applying false lashes! It’s also not the day for you to attempt to try your luck at winged eyeliner. Instead, you need a seasoned team that has the skills to make you look and feel your best for your special day.

When picking a wedding hair stylist and/or a makeup artist in Boca Raton, FL you want to look for proof of experience. The best way to do this is to ask for a portfolio with samples of previous work. When reviewing a portfolio, you want to see samples of work that are relevant to the look you are trying to achieve. For example, if you are looking for a braided hairstyle for your wedding, you want to make sure this is a skill set that your stylist feels comfortable with.

In addition to viewing a portfolio, make sure to request references. It’s also a good idea to read reviews from websites such as Facebook, Yelp and The Knot.

ALWAYS ask for a trial session;

Now that you have an idea on how you want to style your hair for your wedding, how will you know if it will work with your makeup look? Will the eye makeup look you picked look right on your eye shape? This is where the trial comes into play.

A trial gives you a chance to get to know the dream team that will be by your side on your wedding day as well as to see how your hair and makeup will look together. We know that there are a lot costs associated with celebrating your wedding day, but skimping on a hair and makeup trial is not where you want to save some cash. In fact it’s one of the most important investments that you will make for your big day.

We suggest booking your hair and makeup trial a minimum of 4 weeks prior to your wedding day. If you want to get a little more bang for your buck, you may want to consider scheduling a date night on the same day so you can get more use out of the look and see how it wears through the night.

Ask questions… lots of them!

Don’t be afraid to ask questions, this is your wedding day after all! We cannot stress how important it is to communicate with your beauty team throughout the process of preparing for your wedding day. We know wedding planning is just as much fun as it is hectic, so keep a running list of questions as they pop up in your mind. Not sure what to ask? Here are a few things you may want to consider:

Does your bridal makeup team come to the location of my wedding, or will I need to come into the salon?

Can my bridesmaids also book with your team?

How long will hair and makeup appointments take?

Do you offer touch up services?

I’m allergic to silicone. Do any of your products contain this ingredient?

What kind of products will you use to ensure that hair and makeup last all day long?

At Salon Sora, we not only have a team of qualified cosmetologist, but we also have a selection of seasoned professionals that are passionate about their art. Our team has worked on countless weddings and special events in Boca Raton, FL as well as throughout South Florida. 7 Summer Beauty Trends You Need To Know About
The temperature is starting to sizzle in South Florida and although we may still be weeks away from the official start of summer, we’ve been seeing some of the season’s best trends popping up all around Boca Raton. We love being part of such a fashion-forward community and find a tremendous amount of inspiration from our clients, as well as from the catwalks of New York Fashion Week. We’ve combined all of our fashionable influences and industry knowledge to bring you a guide on some of the best beauty trends for summer 2017 and how you can achieve them with help from Salon Sora, the best hair salon in Boca Raton, FL.facials boca raton fl
Peach everything- When it comes to makeup, everything is “just peachy” right now. From pastel peach washed lids, to lips, and cheeks, we can’t get enough of the sherbet shade. One of our favorite makeup products to embrace this trend is the Peach Palette by Too Faced. This palette has a good selection of peachy tones, as well as neutrals in finishes that vary from shimmery to matte.SSBlog2Pic2
Top knot 2.0- An effortless top knot is just what you need to beat the heat in Boca Raton. Elevate your look this season by adding a bandana or bow to your knot. If you really want to have some fun, French braid the back half of your hair before creating your knot? Not sure how to braid? Schedule an appointment at our hair salon in Boca Raton, FL and have one of our Salon Sora stylists help you achieve the look.nail salon boca raton
Metallic manis– Metallic nails are trending this season and it’s a look that has become popular in Boca Raton. Our clients have left our nail salon in Boca Raton with full on metallic nails, as well as with gentle metallic touches. Next time you come in for a manicure, talk to your manicurist about how you can incorporate a metallic hue into your nail design.SSBlog2pic4
Sun-kissed skin- It’s easy to pick up a healthy glow in South Florida, especially if you’ve ever spent time on our newly remodeled Terrance. For those that prefer a sun-free alternative, get the look by dusting some bronzer on your cheek, jawline, and forehead.

Get your glow on- Highlighter is a must-have in your makeup bag right now. With this trend being so popular, the market is filled with options. Most people opt for a powder highlighter, but a liquid highlighter is also a great option for those who have dry skin. We recommend applying highlighter on your cheekbones, down the bridge of your nose, Cupid’s bow, brow bone and in the inner corners of your eyes. This will give you a radiant and youthful appearance. For a subtle glow, add a few drops of liquid highlighter to your foundation to achieve a lit from within look.
Guess who’s back? Half and half hairstyles- Yep, the half up half down looks are back. Whether you opt for a top knot or a pony, you’ll fit right in this season.SSBlog2Pic6
Blush nails- If you haven’t heard, blush is the new neutral. This color, also known as millennial pink has been popping up everywhere. We really like blush as a nail polish color because it is versatile and compliments all skin tones. For a modern twist on a French manicure, ask your manicurist at our nail salon in Boca Raton to use blush instead of white during your next manicure.

Highlight Finishes You Just Must Have – A Salon Sora Cosmetic Recommendation

By | Makeup | No Comments

When it comes to cosmetics and make-up living in a place like Boca Raton, you must remember to select the right foundation and finishes. In fact, with the hot, humid weather if you use the wrong base the rest of your makeup will not stay put or even stay on your face. In this blog, we reveal some of the best highlighters to use for your skin tone and the type of look you want to make you look healthy and not ruddy up your finish. Grab your powder brush and let’s go!

Since we’re talking about highlighters and not foundation, let’s just say, when your skin is tan, you don’t want to cover that up. You want to give the illusion that your skin is shining and healthy with the same glow you see actresses like Jennifer Lawrence sporting around. If you pick a highlighter that’s too light, it might make you look ghostly or ghastly either way you want to look at it. So, here’s what we recommend:

  1. Use a great concealer and substitute in places where you typically use foundation.
  2. Select bronzers that match your skin tone.
  3. Use your highlighters sparingly and don’t be afraid to use different shades in diverse places.
  4. Strategize your look with the right colors.

If you ask Kylie Jenner or Kim Kardashian, they will probably tell you they pioneered the “concealer rules” rule. This is the foundation that you will use generously on the face to give a base. Say bye-bye to using foundations of any sort. When you apply, the concealer get a good one, and two of the best would be Boo-Boo Concealer and NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer. The concealer needs to be implemented in the following places:

Under eyes and in a ‘V’ shape below the dark circles, between the brows and on the ball of the chin. If you have any other blemishes, cover them too. The Wonder Pencil by NYX is incredible for covering flaws and should be in every person’s makeup kit.

Once you’ve covered your dark circles and other discolorations, it’s time to highlight.

Technically you’re going to be contouring the facial features by using your darkest highlighter under the cheekbones, neck, chin and temples. After you’ve done this the next technique is to use your lightest highlighter on the top of the cheek bone, bridge of the nose, the center of the forehead and on the ball of your chin. We love the NAKED collections by Urban Decay as well as the Milk Makeup sticks. If you have a nice warm tan, try the Holographic Stick that can be worn on any part of the face and leaves a gorgeous lavender tone.

By learning to use your highlighter with ease, you’ll soon be kissing your foundation’s good bye once and for all. Keep in mind; you can always book a session with our make-up artists to give you a hands-on lesson.

Salon Sora’s Seal or No Deal Concealer Techniques

By | Makeup | No Comments

make up salon boca ratonTen years ago make-up and cosmetologists may have disagreed with this theory. They used to claim concealer was only good for covering dark circles and flaws. Celebrities like Khloe Kardashian and Gigi Hadid maybe sporting fresh faces, but, one thing is for sure, they aren’t afraid of using concealer for more than covering a zit. In this week’s blog, we’ll share Salon Sora’s secret weapon techniques for using a concealer that you’ll love.

First some simple tools:

•    Complexion Sponges in a variety of shapes
•    Buffing Brush
•    Angle Brush
•    Highlight Brush
•    Blending Brush
•    Boo-Boo Cover-up
•    Wonder Pencil by NYX
•    2-tubes of Concealer, one slightly darker than your skin tone and one lighter

While it’s not 100% necessary to have these brushes, we find that a nice variety of brushes can make the application more even and last longer. Your concealer will stretch further as well.

1.    Start with your moisturizer. Let it soak into the skin for up to 1-minute before applying any make-up.
2.    Next, use your Wonder Pencil and cover any sun spots or flaws. Depending on how dark these marks are, will depend on how much you may need to put on. Work from the center out.
3.    Powder these areas to set in.
4.    Now use your highlighting concealer (lighter than skin) apply to eyelids and inner and outer corners. Blend well.
5.    Use concealer below the eyes. This should be in the shape of a V and extends down to the tip of the nose. The old way was to cover bags only making people have the raccoon effect. Blend with your buffing brush. The closer to the eyelash line uses your finger to blend.
6.    Once you have done under your eyes, apply lighter concealer on the eyebrow bone. Lightest color above the eyebrows and below the eyebrow as a highlighter. Blend, blend, blend.
7.    You can achieve a thinner looking nose by using the concealer down the middle of the nose; this also works well on the top of your chin.
8.    Boo-Boo cream can be placed over flaws or used under the eyes. What we like about this ultra-concealer is it lasts long even during humid weather.
9.    If you want to make your lips stand out and keep your lipstick from bleeding through, line you lips with the Wonder Pencil, then use your blending brush to soften. This is excellent for people with smoker’s lines.

Once you’ve applied concealer, finish and set it with a dusting powder. Your skin will look young and refreshed. A little lipstick and mascara and you’ve got the super-sexy Salon Sora secret weapon.

This Week’s Blog Salon Sora’s Smokey Eye Effects

By | Hair Salon, Makeup | No Comments

This fall we’re seeing a heavy makeup look with the Smokey eyes, natural lip and perfect bronze kissefacial salon boca ratond skin. It’s not that difficult to achieve this look no matter what your eye shape may be. In this blog we demonstrate several ways to get an ultra-sexy eye that pops anytime of the day or night and we’re doing it “Salon Sora Style!” Ready, set, grab your eyeliner!

FIRST: Start with an eyelid primer that grips the makeup no matter how muggy the weather is. When you live in a place like Boca Raton, dark eye makeup can smudge and make you look like you’ve just stepped out of a horror flic! By using a good eye primer, the makeup will last longer.
NEXT: Put your shadow on. Select your lighter color and cover the lid from the crease to the lash line. Once you’re done with the lightest color, such as cream, gray or light blue, then you’re going to use the darker colors. Only on the edges both inside and out. We like to use a medium hue, then go to the darkest on the outer edges. Don’t forget to tap your brush for excess powder. This is one mess you don’t want to clean up.
NOW: Blend, blend, blend. If you prefer a darker effect for the evening, then re-apply the color until it’s to the achieved look.
FINISH: With liquid eyeliner and set with dark or black powder to match. Go into the lower lash line, corner and top lash line.

Once you’ve completed your eyeliner, add a brown or burgundy in the crease to give the eye dimension.

Curl your eyelashes before applying mascara. If you use faux eyelashes, apply those after mascara. Many people think it’s the other way around, but if you apply the mascara first the fake eyelashes will stick better and will be re-usable. We could do a whole other tutorial on strip lashes alone, but today our focus is no smoky eyes.
Once you’ve let the eyelashes dry, then cleanup any excess powder with a Q-tip or your finger, be careful not to smudge. It’s a matter of preference on whether you add eyeliner to the inside of the lower lash to the tear duct. Some variation is to add white or varying colors for a more dramatic effect.

There you have it! Salon Sora’s smoky eye effect! We’ve got professional makeup artists on staff to help. Call for your appointment today!

50 Shades of Cindy Crawford

By | Makeup | No Comments

CindycrawfordCindy Crawford just celebrated her 50th birthday in St. Barth’s recently.  The once Malibu resident has seen her share of the Florida sunshine and has certainly never wore it better.  She’s always been a woman that helped set the standard for ‘smoking hot’ and now turning half a century she continues to wow us.  She’s helped to pave the way for the less than blonde look making it a stunning event to be a brunette.  Here’s a timeline for Cindy and her luscious locks that make this former model from the model that grew up in DeKalb, Illinois.

Crawford made her debut as a model during the 80’s and also walked the runway for Chanel, Calvin Klein and DYNY.  You couldn’t go anywhere without seeing this midwestern beauty on the cover of nearly every magazine. Incredibly enough most people remember the long legs of this supermodel than when she emerged in front of a Pepsi machine at an advertisement during the halftime show in the Super bowl.

The half owner of Rooms to Go can be found in some glamorous pictures back in the beginning of her career in 1980 when you can find her on the cover of Vogue Magazine in several editions.  The gorgeous model looks amazing when she’s got wet hair and if you remember she was often seen with big fluffy curls, long, long, long layers and often baby highlights to her dark brown strands.

Primarily, you see her wearing a part down the middle and she is fortunate to have the forehead to do it with grace, but you can find her in both straightened looks as well as super messy raaarrrrr! I think one of her best looks was when she cut her hair to donate to charity for cancer patients.  Cindy went with a Lob and it looked spectacular on her.  Her color helped the hair look full and thick with different shades of copper, blonde and chocolate mousse framing her long face.

Cindy tends to look best with a dark, smoky eye and natural color on the lips. But who can forget those eyebrows?  She definitely goes for a dark, full and controlled look when it comes to her brows. Her eye makeup tends to draw you in with this alluring look. Perfect for a transition of dark to light hair color. She certainly eats the right foods and takes care of her figure.  At age 50 she was seen in a skimpy bikini and looking incredible.  No fear, turning old here!  She is a timeless beauty no doubt.  The tabloids report that she drinks a lot of green tea for stomach issues.  We also heard she loves Tequila.

She claims to eat a lot of poultry, salads, sushi and pasta with turkey meatballs as a diet, but she’s also feeding her family of two kids Kaia and Presley so eating alfalfa sprouts is probably not in question.

We know one thing is for sure at age 50 she’s still a rocking hot lady and we hope to see more of her trying new hairstyles and keeping the rest of us anticipating if she’ll ever age.

If you’re thinking about trying a new look like Cindy did with her ‘Lob’ cut, we can help you find the right style for you.  Don’t forget every Monday you get 50% off on a Haircut & Blow-dry at Boca’s best salon.
